What is CD Printing?

20/02/2012

CD printing is when an image in printed onto a CD or DVD. All band CD’s and all DVD’s will have an image, design or colour printed onto them for two reasons. The first is so you can recognise what the CD is and who the artist is, the second reason is so that you know which way up the CD goes!

There are different methods of CD printing dependant on what you want to print onto the disc. Media Plant offer three different types of CD printing; Digital Print; Screen Printing: and Litho Printing.

Digital Print

Best used if you want a quick turnaround on a small scale. The CD is printed using a one pass full colour printer which seals your images with a UV cured ink. This provides the best possible quality and prevention from smudging.

Screen Print

This method is the original way of CD printing and is now used for large scale orders using a bold or solid colour print image. They can be printed in CMYK (where all colours are a mixture of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black. It is used for full colour documents and is the standard colour model) or they can be printed in Pantone (making sure colours match without direct contact to one another). You can have all your products colour matched so that everything is the same for a particular brand and Media Plant has thousands of Pantone colours available including fluorescents and metallics.

Litho Print

This technique is best for reproducing photographs or artwork with gradients of colour. The bonus of Litho Printing is that it prints CMYK onto a white base and then having the option of adding a 6th colour in Pantone.

Having the three different methods of CD printing available to you allows your images to be transferred in the best quality possible. For more information about Media Plant and the services we offer, please get in touch.

Piracy is a cost to your business – protection is a revenue contributor.

8/09/2011

Copy protection is an excellent revenue generator, did you know that third party analysis and research shows that protected DVD’s can expect to earn an increase in sales revenue of between 7% and 20% over an unprotected disc.

DVD piracy has evolved. At one time, media was expensive and PC hard disc space was small, but now, consumer access to free and inexpensive DVD ripping software for PC’s, high speed internet connections along with cheap media has made it easy for one person to illegally copy video content for personal use.

Have you thought about protecting your content? Copy protecting your DVD Video product is an excellent way of defeating the freeware and shareware rippers that are also known as casual pirates.

By providing two main modes of protection it defeats the top methods of copying.

  • Rip Deterrence technology, thwarts freeware and shareware rippers that download software from the Internet
  • Anti Copy Protection – Inhibits copying via analogue ‘out’ port in devices like DVD players and set top boxes

This kind of protection is used on billions of DVD’s worldwide and is the same protection that Hollywood Studios use on major film releases.

There are no separate license agreements needed to add this to your DVD. For a small increase on disc productions costs you can protect your content.

Through our partnership with Rovi Corporation a global leader in digital entertainment technology solutions, we can provide cost effective, successful copy protection for your DVD products, whether it is a major film release on replicated DVD discs or short run DVD duplication.

Vinyl Pressing by Media Plant: For those who like a richer sound

16/08/2011

In 1948 Columbia Records first introduced the LP or long-playing microgroove record as it was also known. The same format continues to be used today with the minor addition of stereophonic sound capability.

When LPs first came on to the market they were made with very large grooves which meant the playing time for each side of the vinyl album was limited to 5 minutes. This clearly wouldn’t do, this is why they refined the product and created a new fine-grooved vinyl disk which meant you could enjoy around 20 minutes of your favorite album before you would have to turn it over.
