To celebrate 25 years of music, The Spooky Men’s Chorale commissioned a special double CD Mediabook bringing together songs and memories from across the Australian collective’s career.
The finished release needed to coincide with the group’s UK tour, so Media Plant was tasked with managing production, keeping the project running smoothly and arranging delivery to multiple addresses across the UK.
41 Songs from 25 Years
The two replicated audio CDs feature a total of 41 songs, creating a substantial retrospective of The Spooky Men’s Chorale’s first 25 years.
Both discs were printed in full colour, with artwork designed to continue the distinctive illustrated style used throughout the release. Each CD is housed inside its own wallet, fixed to the front and back endpapers of the Mediabook. This keeps the discs secure while allowing the booklet to remain the central feature of the package.
A 48-Page Perfect-Bound Booklet
At the heart of the project is a 48-page, perfect-bound booklet filled with photographs, artwork and material documenting the group’s history.
The pages were printed in full colour on 200gsm Mango Gloss paper. This gives the photography and artwork a brighter, more defined appearance while creating a deliberate contrast against the more understated outer covering.
With 48 pages available, the format provided enough room to tell the story properly without making the finished package feel oversized or difficult to handle.
A Compact Paper-Over-Board Mediabook
Measuring 135 × 130 × 10mm, the finished Mediabook uses a rigid paper-over-board construction. The outer was wrapped in 150gsm Mango Satin paper, printed in full colour and finished to complement the darker illustrated artwork.
Its compact dimensions make it only slightly larger than a conventional CD package, but the hardback construction and substantial booklet give it the appearance and feel of a commemorative book.
Each finished Mediabook individually shrink-wrapped for protection during transport, handling and sale on tour.
Coordinated for the UK Tour
Producing the Mediabooks was only one part of the project. The completed copies also had to reach several UK locations in time for the group’s tour.
By coordinating manufacturing, finishing and delivery as one process, Media Plant helped ensure the anniversary release arrived where it was needed and was ready to accompany The Spooky Men’s Chorale on the road.
