This project began with a soundtrack and an anniversary that called for something more distinctive than a conventional vinyl release.
The aim was to create a limited collector’s edition that reflected the dark atmosphere of the production without relying solely on the printed artwork. The record itself needed to become part of the creative concept.
Creating the Blood-Red Liquid Effect
At the centre of the release was a heavyweight 12-inch liquid-filled vinyl record. Red oil-based liquid was sealed inside the record to create the appearance of swirling blood.
Whenever the vinyl is picked up, tilted or turned over, the liquid moves across its surface. Dark pools separate into lighter translucent areas, with smaller droplets and patterns continually forming as the record changes position.
This movement means the appearance is never completely fixed. Each copy becomes a tactile collector’s piece that can be handled, displayed and viewed from different angles.
The complete liquid-filled construction weighed approximately 320g, giving the record a noticeably substantial feel compared with a conventional vinyl pressing. Two full-colour CMYK centre labels completed the record itself.
Building the Collector’s Edition
The packaging was developed to support the record rather than compete with it.
Each vinyl was supplied in a black polylined inner sleeve with centre holes, protecting the record while matching the darker visual style of the release. This was housed inside a 350gsm CMYK-printed gatefold sleeve with a dispersion finish.
A full-colour A2 poster was also included with every copy. Printed single-sided on 150gsm machine-finished paper, the poster was folded down to A4 so it could sit neatly inside the gatefold packaging.
The finishing touch was a custom 12-inch OBI strip wrapped around the outside of the sleeve. Every OBI was individually numbered by hand, reinforcing the limited nature of the 200-copy production run.
Once assembled, each edition was shrinkwrapped to protect the sleeve, OBI and contents while giving the finished release a clean retail presentation.
A Soundtrack Designed for Collectors
Film soundtrack vinyl has become an important part of the collector market, particularly when the physical release offers something that cannot be reproduced digitally.
For this project, the liquid-filled record, heavyweight construction, gatefold sleeve, folded poster and hand-numbered OBI all contributed to the same idea. It was not simply a soundtrack pressed onto vinyl. Every element was developed to make the anniversary edition feel considered, limited and connected to the atmosphere of the production.
Our vinyl pressing services give film studios, soundtrack labels and rights holders the freedom to create physical releases around the visual identity of a production. In this case, the moving blood-red liquid turned the record itself into the defining feature of the finished collector’s edition.
