Damn it, man, what is the difference between duplication & replication?
CD DVD Duplication & CD DVD Replication are two very different things.
If you have been searching for the difference between the two, you will have no doubt found conflicting results. Have no fear as Media Plant is here to clear up the mystery for you.
So What is CD & DVD Replication?
The process of replication of CD/DVD media is relatively straight forward. We will not bore you with all the science of replication, to be honest, you’re probably not that interested!
You want to know the difference between replication and duplication.
Physically created from your CD or DVD master, so the data on the CD or DVD needs to be 100% correct. Thankfully at Media Plant, our team will go through all of this with you.
The easiest way to describe CD or DVD replication is the creation of discs from scratch (forgive the pun).
Once your master disc has been read by our equipment a Glass Master is made. This Glass master contains all your data and is used to create a stamper.
The stamper itself is used to create physical replicated discs from Poly Carbonate. Then run through a scanner which detects imperfections and ensures all discs are of the highest possible quality.
After this process, a reflective coating is added so that lasers from CD DVD players can read the media if no layer is added then the lasers from playback machines would pass through the transparent Poly Carbonate.
The coating itself acts a reflective barrier (think mirror for want of a better word) after this process a lacquer is added to protect the disc.
After this that it is then ready for an on body print. Your CD or DVD artwork (once approved) would then be printed on the discs themselves for a finished result.
Then it’s just a simple case of deciding on the appropriate packaging for your shiny new CD or DVD. We have a wealth of options available for you to choose from to ensure you get the best results for your needs.
So What is CD & DVD Duplication?
In simplest terms, the discs are already created. Duplication is for those looking for a quick turnaround of CD or DVD media, with turnaround times from 24 hours are available depending on our schedule itself.
CD & DVD Duplication sees your data/content supplied to us as a master disc (similar to replication) or indeed files via FTP.
We then use our Tapematic in-house disc printer to print your CD or DVD artwork on the discs.
It’s a six colour UV process to ensure the highest possible finished results.
We then use our in-house machines to duplicate your CD or DVDs. This process sees your data burned onto highest grade CDR or DVDR.
That’s the main difference between CD DVD Duplication & CD DVD Replication.
After the duplication of your content onto either a CD or DVD, we then print the actual CD or DVD with your artwork design. Then it’s just a case of choosing your packaging.
CD DVD Replication:- Creation of the physical disc itself with your data on a glass master than a stamper
CD DVD Duplication:- Duplication of your content/data on existing CDR/DVDR media
Replication Vs Duplication
Benefits of CD DVD Replication
- Typically used for larger runs of CD or DVD 1000 +
- Reduced costs for large scale production
- More options for print finishing
- One disadvantage is longer turnaround time 10-12 days
Benefits of CD DVD Duplication
- Fast turnaround times between from 24 hours (depending on schedule)
- Digital print option & Thermal print options
- Short run CD DVD duplication from 50 units
